Cindy Roth

Founder and Director of Longarm University®

and Innovations – a Machine Quilting Conference®

April 3-4, 2007

Cindy Roth will be presenting two workshops at the Studio on Tuesday, April 3 and Wednesday, April 4.  See below for further information.  Please contact Vicki at the Studio to reserve your place today!

Beyond the Basics – Free Hand Patterns

Free hand designs are fun and easy to do and will give your quilting a very “custom” look.  In this hands on class you will learn work on a quilting sampler using over 20 different free hand patterns, including feathers and feather variations, different stippling and fill-in patterns, and many more designs.  We will also discuss and create “overall” free hand patterns.  We will also talk about and play with specialty threads.  As always, there is plenty of time for questions, answers and networking.

Beyond the Basics – Free Hand Feather Sampler and

Working with Templates

Everyone loves feathers! But feathers, although beautiful, can sometimes be the “problem child” of the quilting world.  In this all day workshop you will learn about all types of feathers. We will work on feather wreaths of all types including circular wreaths, oval wreaths and heart wreaths.  You will also learn how to use templates as the feather’s “spine” and several different and unique feather borders and corners.  Cindy will also show you the easy way to make cabled borders and feathered Baptist Fans.  You will be seeing feathers in your sleep and making beautiful and easy feathers on your quilts.

Each class is a “free standing” class can be taken individually.  Classes are a combination of lecture, demonstration and hands on.

CLASS HOURS:  Classes are all day, 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.  There is a break for lunch and also a morning and afternoon break.

CLASS SIZE:  Class size will be limited to 4 students per day, per class.   There will be a minimum of 6 students for the 2 classes.

CLASS FEE:  Class fee is $200 per student per day.   Class fees can be paid with cash, check or Visa or Master Card.

CLASS DISCOUNTS:  If two days of classes are taken by one student the class fee for both days is $375.   Please note that there is no discount for spouses, relatives or business partners nor are there any unpaid “class observers”

CLASS SUPPLIES: The Studio (and Cindy) will provide all class supplies which include quilt tops and backing, quilting supplies (pins, tape measure, scissors, etc.,) class handouts and/or notebooks, pencils, etc.  All students need do is show up for the class.

Custom Heirloom Quilting

July 15, 2007

9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

"Custom Heirloom Workshop" topics include instruction in traditional quilting, using heavy quilting, trapunto, stencils and full traditional feathering. Includes a trunk show of wholecloth/trapunto quilts, demonstration and instruction in designing traditional quilting for show or customer quilts. Hands-on instruction in "Mctavishing", contemporary traditional background quilting, and in how to achieve "non-stop" cross-hatching and other very traditional background fillers. Discussion of shadow trapunto, use of stencils, color batting methods of trapunto, marking tools and feathering techniques for hand-quilted effects, as well as discussion of useful products and the business of longarm quilting. There are many question and answer opportunities.

The class is geared toward the intermediate to advanced quilter; although, others are more than welcome. The workshop will be limited to 10 students.  Eight students will use the APQS Millennium and two will be able to use George.  A small trapunto, shadow trapunto, or color trapunto wall hanging will be started in this class, then completed at home. This project could be hung in students studios to display or be shown in a wall hanging category for competition.

The fee for this workshop is $275.00 and includes all the supplies you will need.  $100 will hold your place in the workshop and the fee needs to reach the hostess by June 1.  Checks can be made out to the Country Quilt Studio.  Please contact Vicki or Jeri at the Studio (515 382-1815; countryquiltstudio@midiowa.net) with any questions or for more information.

Feel free to call the instructor if you have questions for her!!

Since the Ankeny Area Quilt Guild annual quilt show is this same weekend, why not make a weekend of it and plan to attend both.  Ankeny is only half an hour south off I-35.  It’s a great show!

For those of you who are out of town/state, arrangements have been made for special workshop rates at the Baymont Inn & Suites and Montebello B&B Inn in Ames.  I would highly recommend the B&B, especially if you have never stayed in one before.  One room, two person occupancy runs ~$50-55 per person per night and includes a wonderful breakfast.  Just mention that you’ll be here for the quilt workshop to receive special rates.
