In the beginning class we cover the
basics of longarm machine quilting. In the morning we will discuss
the different threads and their uses, battings and their
characteristics and choosing patterns/stencils that will enhance the
individual quilt. We’ll discuss the Quick Zip System and attach a
quilt top to the appropriate zipper. After lunch, we move to the
longarm and go over its characteristics including the stitch
regulator, tension and thread, needle choice, a little bit of what
it takes to maintain the machine in good working order and just how
to run it. Then we load a quilt top and quilt it. By the end of
the day, you will have a queen size quilt top quilted to take home
ready for binding.

This technique allows to add just a subtle
touch of color to those wholecloth quilts we all love so
much. We'll design a small wall hanging or pillow top (or
whatever), stitch the design on the longarm and then just
play with the color possibilites.

This is an exciting
background filler for those speical quilt tops. It
can be done on a DSM as well as the longarm, so
don't be left out. I have copies of Karen's book
and DVD available.
